Opinions and Observations

Opinions. Everyone is entitled to have and express them. I have read thousands of them on social media over the years. I rarely comment. Most of the time, I just keep scrolling because it is the OP’s opinion, and I don’t have anything useful to say, and if I did, I am not one for controversy. That being said, I am entitled to have an opinion, too.

Social Media

Over the years, I have only had to take down a few of my posts because someone didn’t like what I had to say. When I write or post on social media, it’s mostly about things I am doing or have seen. The post is not there to create waves. That is, until someone else chooses to do so, and makes me feel like I’m not entitled to have an opinion.

Expressing My Opinion

Like everyone else, I am merely expressing myself about something at the moment I am writing. Why am I not allowed to do that when others are? I once shared a quote from a movie that spoke to me, and it was completely misconstrued. It was just a quote from a movie, but I was made to feel that I was wrong. So, I took down the post. I shared an observation about what I had recently seen while I was out and about and got a lecture about it. I took down the post because I was made to feel embarrassed about it.

No one has to like or agree with what I have to say.  Likewise, I don’t always like or agree with what others have to say. The difference is that I don’t lecture or embarrass anyone. I just don’t comment and move on.

I was raised to believe that if you don’t have anything nice to say, then don’t say anything at all. The world is not that way anymore, and it makes me sad.
