I am happy to announce that I am back with my book reviews! To start off this season’s reviews, I begin by saying that I have been loving the writing from authors based out of the UK lately. I especially enjoy when the books they write incorporate food and Christmas, my favorite holiday. To me there is nothing better. “Snowflakes and Christmas Cakes” by Lindsey Paley is my latest find, and it is simply delicious! I think you will enjoy this wonderfully crafted story.
Not Your Average Romance
“Snowflakes and Christmas Cakes” is not your average romance. In fact, I would venture to say that it has a sprinkle of intrigue, a dash of adventure and a smidgen of culinary magic all wrapped up in a delicious holiday treat! I found it to be an easy read; just long enough to enjoy a cup of cocoa or two, but short enough to finish on a chilly Sunday afternoon. However, if you choose to savor it like I did, then that is okay too!
Like her UK colleagues, Ms. Paley has done a great job in keeping her readers interested. Her heroine, Mille is a fabulous chef living in the South of France, and is not looking forward to the holidays on so many levels. But she loves her sister and her nieces, so north she travels to help our her family in need. What she finds when she gets there is a whole lot of cold, mountains of snow, and a village of eclectic characters with whom you wish you were spending the holidays.
Snowflakes and Christmas Cakes, A Food Lover’s Delight
For the food lover in all of us, there are plenty of happenings going on as Mille whips up some wonderful concoctions that will make your mouth water. The only things missing from this delightfully yummy story are her recipes! I am so wishing to make her marmalade roulade…sigh. Well, I am just going to have to make some cake, but whatever you do, please be sure to whip up a batch of something wonderful for yourself and enjoy “Snowflakes and Christmas Cakes” by Lindsey Paley this holiday season!
