Summer Garden and The World’s Largest Potato

So sorry that I have been M.I.A. for the longest time, but I have been working on numerous projects. However, it is time to get back to talking about food, and maybe some wine and other fun treats!

But first things first…I want to talk about my summer garden and what I have been doing these past several months – planting up a storm! I started numerous herbs, tomatoes and peppers earlier this year in order to get them into the ground as soon as possible. The first of May, I transferred everything to outside containers. While many of you might think that is a bit too early, well…I live in northern California and these last several months have been warmer than usual, and the rain has been less than usual so I was able to do this for the first time in I don’t know how long.

I am happy to report that my tomatoes are officially taller than I am! Woohoo! I’ll post pictures soon…

The herbs are starting to take off, although I did lose several plants, but replaced them with more established ones I found at the nursery. Next year I will start the seeds earlier and let them grow in the window planter a little bit longer.

For fun, I decided I wanted to grow some spuds, so I planted a potato! In fact, my husband and I both planted a potato, but they are not ready yet.

…and this is mine. I know, I know…it’s much smaller, but I have been cultivating lots of fun other things for my garden. There will be plenty of time for growth for this little one.

In the meantime, since I like potatoes, my husband bought this little beauty home for dinner tonight!

This takes growing your own spud to a whole new level!

She’s just a little over two pounds and is seriously big enough for about four meals. I’ll be enjoying her for days!

We are gearing up for “Grilling Season” at The Dusterhoft House! There is nothing better than chicken, or steak or ribs on the grill! It’s my preferred method of cooking! So look forward to more posts of our grilling delights!
